Commentaire descriptif

This beginners’ reference-book-with-a-storyline introduces readers to the basics of construction through the eyes of five friends—Yulee, Martin, Nick, Sally and Pedro—who are on a quest to build a doghouse for their pet, Max, who is unable to join them in their new tree house. Their adventure begins in the library, where they research foundations, beams and frames before heading into the streets to investigate the secrets of the buildings they see (but don't pay attention to) every day—their school, a fire station, surrounding skyscrapers. Along the way the five friends learn everything they need to know about how buildings are made, what makes them strong and what keeps them standing, from floors, walls and windows to arches, domes and columns. The book features key facts in bold lettering, bright drawings and kid-friendly comic-book scenes with speech bubbles that drive the narrative forward. It ends with easy instructions for building a mini doghouse out of marshmallows, craft sticks and construction paper.
