Commentaire descriptif

On a visit to the local art gallery, a boy discovers an entirely new world through the painted landscapes of 12 of Canada’s most renowned artists. Representing regions from the West Coast to the Atlantic provinces, each painting draws him in and sends him on an amazing cross-country adventure that opens his heart and mind to art. Entirely wordless, the pictured narrative encourages storytelling by showing readers, through example, how art can tell a story. Each time the boy leaps into a painting, he is taken on a journey that readers, in turn, follow. Illustrations are the centrepiece of this engaging large-format book. Cut paper collage artwork reproduces the famous paintings that serve as backdrops for the boy’s adventure. Bold colour, textured surfaces, and an effective combination of double spreads and framed multi-paneled pages contribute to its stunning design. A few facts about the original paintings and their artists are included at the end. This innovative adventure story can serve as a dynamic introduction to Canadian art history.
