Commentaire descriptif

Captivating images of snowmen illustrate this playful counting and adding rhyme. Children will love the theme of winter play as these fellows sled, ski, gaze at stars and build a fort with ice blocks. The language incorporates short rhymes and simple addition sentences, “Three more snowmenplaying hide and seek. Two more snowmentrying not to peek. 3+2=5.” This is a great way to connect math language with real-life notions. Young readers may wish to count the snowmen to verify the sums—if they’re not too eager to find out what the funny creatures will do next. The illustrations are both artistic and comical. Strong pen lines create shadow and form, while the snowmen’s stick arms gesticulate expressively. An amusing range of hats, scarves, jackets—even a shower cap—make unique characters of everyone. The final spread shows the whole gang together, in a panorama of snowy fun. The language finishes with a long sum: the addition of all previous sums. Children may be impressed to learn that in reading this book, they have added all the way up to 100.
