Commentaire descriptif

In the same vein as “This is the House That Jack Built” and just as fun to read aloud, this timeless, cumulative tale involves a snoring granny, a dreaming child, a dozing dog, a snoozing cat, a slumbering mouse and a wakeful flea all piled atop one another “in a napping house where everyone is sleeping.” Until the flea takes a bite out of one them, that is, and they all come crashing down. The simple language and repetitive structures in this book invite and facilitate choral or dramatic readings. Realistic double-page oil paintings start out in rainy nighttime tints of blue and gradually brighten up as the story progresses. Rendered in comical detail, each illustration plays up the facial expressions and body language of the various members in the tangled heap. The last page depicts the entire wakeful household, a rainbow sky and sunny morning light. The 25th anniversary edition includes a CD with a reading of the tale and six original songs.
