Readers will revel in the excitement as she engages in all the preparations: sending party invitations, testing out the games, baking a frosting-topped cake, wrapping presents. Double spreads of brightly coloured illustrations accompany a simple text to evoke a festive mood and ramp up the anticipation. In her blue dress and orange crown, the main character embodies larger-than-life qualities, like a fairy godmother or Santa Claus. But the icing on the cake is the final, heartwarming scene, which reveals that the tireless Birthday Queen is none other than Mom herself.
