And she is also nice, as readers learn through a recurring refrain that they will happily chime in with at story time. Sparse text and witty, colourful pencil drawings rely on simile to portray a universal “Everymum” who is as beautiful as a butterfly, as comfy as an armchair, as soft as a kitten and as tough as a rhino. This adaptable story with a heartwarming message: “I love my mum. And you know what? SHE LOVES ME! (And she always will)” can be used to talk about role models or the role of parents, or to launch a lesson in descriptive language, where children have to come up with their own similes to describe a parent or other family member.
