Commentaire descriptif

Each of the 26 children in this quirky alphabet book has something that another child wants, but needs something that another one has. The name of the object each child has starts with the letter that begins his name. What he or she really wants begins with the next letter in the alphabet. Luckily, there is a clever, cooperative solution to everyone's quandary. “Alberto had an alligator, but he didn't have a bathing suit . . . Dinah had a doggy bone, but she didn't have an egg . . . Vladimir had a vase, but he didn't have a water ski.” And so it goes. The repeated sentence structure reinforces the alphabetical sequence while inviting the reader to chant along. Every scene is a kinetic swatch of brightly coloured artwork depicting endearing, ethnically diverse characters striking sometimes impossible poses. The children's names reflect their cultures (Rohin, Kalil, Joo Pyo, Mateo) in a subtle but appreciated shift away from the typical. A highly interactive book that makes sequencing and learning the alphabet fun. A searchable letter is hidden on each page, guaranteed to spark additional readings and challenge every reader's observational skills.
