Beautiful Oops!, Tap the Magic Tree, TheDot, This Book Just Ate My Dog!
Bright and beautiful, this volume is a testament to simplicity and design. The illustrations consist entirely of coloured dots; the language instructs and applauds readers. The first page shows a painted yellow spot in its centre: “Press here and turn the page.” As pages are turned, dots proliferate, change colour, slide around and grow to fill pages. Children are encouraged in a variety of activities, such as clapping, shaking the book and blowing on it, to effect the change they will find on the following page. The coloured dots are rendered in a tactile, painterly manner. Variation in stroke, colour application, and even the odd smudge provide an appealing interface for young readers. Produced with board covers and thick, coated pages, this sturdy volume is built to withstand the treatment it demands of readers. A highly interactive experience, it is an excellent choice for engaging young children and demonstrating that reading is fun. The book also offers an amusing way to explore the structure of imperatives and suggestions, as well as expressions of support.
