A one-stop resource for homes, schools and libraries, this engaging compendium of the major historical events and inventions that have helped shape our world begins with the appearance of the first humans in 6,000,000 BCE and ends with recent events including the Arab Spring and the Japanese earthquake. Each page describes one or two of these pivotal moments in fact-filled, age-appropriate prose that children will find both entertaining and informative. The discovery of fire, the invention of the wheel, Copernicus, World Wars I and II, Gutenberg and the printing press, the Beatles, the Berlin Wall, the first moonwalk and Harry Potter are just a few of the many subjects covered in this fascinating history lesson. Cartoon-style illustrations and frequent “Ripples” boxes, which explore the ongoing impact of history-changing events and individuals, help extend and solidify the learning. The book includes an at-a-glance time line which may be used as a general guide or overview of the myriad topics featured, a detailed table of contents and a comprehensive, project-ready index.
