Commentaire descriptif

This dynamic reference book allows children to discover school life in different parts of the world. Organized by continent, each section provides a map, a brief overview of the continent and profiles of students between the ages of 9 and 12 from various countries within that continent. Each student profile includes a short introduction to the child, including a bit of context about his or her home life, and sections depicting a typical day at school in that country, such as descriptions of meals served at lunch, subjects learned in class and recess games. The large format of the book allows for many large and bright photographs to illustrate each profile, which makes it easy for children to delve into the lives of their peers around the world. The photos are accompanied by short descriptive paragraphs of the various subjects covered. Appropriately, sales of the book benefit UNICEF. The book features an introduction from soccer superstar David Beckham. Readers are given the opportunity to compare and contrast the lives of their peers in other parts of world and to reflect on how the experience of learning connects them in one global community.
