Pistes d'exploration

Discuss why it is important to conserve water.

List ways we use water in our daily lives. What do you think would change if we needed to conserve more water? How would this affect your daily life?

Identify and explain conditions under which water can be dangerous. What measures are in place to protect us, and what can we do to protect ourselves?

Make a list of animals that live in, on or around water. Sort them into the different bodies of water found in the world.

Make a KWL chart about water.

Read the table of contents and predict what each chapter will talk about.

Read the glossary and index, and find words that are cognates. Are there any false friends (words that look the same but have different meanings)?

Read a chapter with a partner and explain it to another team.

Make posters to put up around your school naming and illustrating ways to conserve water.

Commentaire descriptif

“The same water has been on Earth for billions of years.” This powerful nugget of information recurs as a theme throughout this early-reading science book on water. Short, simple sentences are printed in brightly coloured sidebars, making this book accessible to readers with a wide range of reading and comprehension skills. Quality photographs depict various forms of and uses for water, including simple water experiments for readers to try. Clear diagrams and easy charts help deliver the content. One way or another, young readers will find their way into the range of material offered in this small but information-packed book. The underlying message of water conservation is emphasized in the last spreads, “Uses of Water,” “Water Pollution” and “Conservation.” Readers of all ages will be struck by the book’s final message: “The same water keeps going around and around planet Earth. Everyone needs water.” Included in this book are a table of contents, an index, a glossary, questions for consideration, and recommendations for further reading and research.
