Commentaire descriptif

Dog is such a fan of books, he opens a bookstore and waits for the shopping hordes to descend. He waits some more. Then he picks up a book and starts to read. Short, simple sentences in large type are separated at first by abundant spot images, encouraging young readers through the story. The illustrations expand, their soft hues of watercolour occupying whole spreads, as Dog’s storybook begins to weave its spell: “When he read, he forgot that he was alone . . . And when one adventure ended, Dog simply took another book . . . .” Toothy dinosaurs creep after Dog as he walks (while reading) through a tropical forest. Dog reads in the pouch of a kangaroo, leaping across the desert. Hurtling in a flying saucer, through book-strewn, alien-populated outer space, Dog reads. This book celebrates the joys of reading and sharing of stories, whether children are avid readers or still searching for the right book. When a girl appears in his shop, looking for a good book, Dog knows exactly which ones to recommend. In the end, Dog’s bookstore is crowded—with story-creatures, and one satisfied customer, carrying her stack of new books.
