This collection of adapted nursery rhymes is part of the You Read to Me, I’ll Read to You series, which is specifically designed to support early readers. The poems are cleverly modified from the original tales, with the author writing from a different point of view—that of the characters rather than the more traditional third person. The verses are conveniently colour-coded which allows for them to be read together or as dialogue with a partner. Young readers can easily assume the role of one of the characters. Each nursery rhyme contains, on average, 20 short verses, making the poems a perfect length for an interactive reading experience. The vocabulary is short and snappy, creating a good flow and rhythm. The playful illustrations provide their own amusing twist to the nursery rhymes, with several of the characters depicted as animals rather than humans. Children will have the entertaining opportunity to see Little Miss Muffett, Humpty Dumpty and the gang in a whole new light.
