Imagine you were a marine biologist for a day. Name some of the responsibilities you would have in caring for dolphins. Listen to the “chirps, whistles, squeaks, clicks and click trains” that dolphins make. Can you identify the different sounds?

Create a Venn diagram comparing dolphins and humans. What did you learn about dolphins that surprised you the most? Write a letter to a dolphin research center regarding any questions you may still have about dolphins.

Write a shape poem about dolphins. Use the information in the book to help you construct your poem.

Research and write another article about dolphins to add to the table of contents (e.g. dolphin therapy). How do dolphins help individuals with special needs and physical or emotional difficulties? 

Use the interactive glossary (page 60-61) to look up the meaning of words in the text. From that list, sort the words into those that would define most dolphins (echolocation) and those which would define most animals (habitat).

Look throughout the book to find comparisons between humans and dolphins (especially on pages 42-43). Fill out a Venn diagram to present your findings.

Dolphins are perceived as fun-loving animals. Create a dolphin game by preparing question or fact cards and a game board. Remember to include the instructions for playing the game. 

On page 40-41, there is a text about dolphins in aquariums. Discuss how you feel about dolphins and other animals living in aquariums and in zoos.
