Commentaire descriptif

This tribute to the love of reading tells the story of Elizabeth Brown, a woman who loves to read and amasses a huge collection of books during her lifetime. When she reaches the point where she has too many books to fit in her home, she donates them all to her hometown to create a public library. Short rhyming verses tell Elizabeth’s story, with rhythmic repetitive words that make it an excellent read-aloud. “She didn’t like to play with dolls,She didn’t like to skate. She learned to read quite earlyAnd at an incredible rate.” Elizabeth is portrayed as a tall, vibrant and independent woman with fiery red hair. Readers come to understand why she loves books so much, as the illustrations depict wonderful reading moments, whether she is hidden under the covers with a flashlight or sitting quietly on her front porch. Gently humorous scenes reflect an era of steamer trunks and gas lamps. Her generous donation at the end of the story emphasizes her desire to share her love of books with others, thereby encouraging readers to seek out new books to read, collect and share.
