Commentaire descriptif

This engaging book for emergent readers is chock full of images and fascinating facts about farm life. Blending familiar with less familiar aspects of farming, it features the traditional farm animals (roosters, turkeys, sheep, cows) alongside lesser known ones (ostriches, alpacas, bison), and introduces children to the world of grain silos, heavy machinery, harvesting and different types of farms (dairy, pig, fruit, rice). Excellent for reading aloud, this book’s informative text uses theme-related vocabulary in context to convey the facts in a straightforward style. Readers will discover that “A mother chicken, called a hen, can lay eggs for your breakfast,” and that “Chocolate comes from the seeds of the cacao tree.” Clear layouts combine text in boldface type, large readable font, lively close-up photographs of animals, crops and machinery, and picture sequences showcasing processes or farm-related terminology to make this a perfect first reference book for young readers. The book provides a table of contents, glossary and detailed index, as well as access to a free, 16-page digital companion book, “Farm Fun!” featuring additional photos and activities.
