I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato, I Taste, What's for Lunch?: How Schoolchildren Eat Around the World, Eating the Alphabet: Fruits and Vegetables From A to Z
The five food groups are about to form a big parade to celebrate the joys of healthy eating and the Mayor of Food Town invites you to come along for the ride. Each food group has four large pages devoted to it. The first two are a line-up of quirky, anthropomorphized foods sporting names like “Bran Muffin,” “Pita Pocket” and “Croissant;” the second double spread offers a few brief lines of information, as we encounter more of the foods that populate the group. Fun facts are playfully laid out in large typeface with keywords highlighted: “Vegetables get their bright colours from the many nutrients they contain.” Less familiar words like “calcium”, “antiseptic” and “bacteria” are defined in a glossary at the back. The illustrations are a colourful mixed media collage of photographs, letter cut-outs, graphic design elements and paper layering, making what could be a fairly run-of-the-mill topic into something visually charming. At the end of the parade is a page devoted to parents and caregivers on sensible portions, as well as an explanation of a Food Pyramid. This easy-to-explore resource will inspire good eating habits in young learners.
