Commentaire descriptif

A little girl spots her teacher, Mr. Jones, with a box of recycling: “‘What’s recycling?’ ‘I’ll explain at school!’” Mr. Jones takes the kids on a tour of a recycling facility. Conversational language explains how different materials are processed, suggesting some new uses for each: “And what about all that paper and plastic that goes in here, and here?” Other methods for reducing waste and reusing materials are also covered: “‘Don’t waste waste, Mom!’” Funny images in sketchy pen marks and pastel hues depict bottle-crushing, can-stacking and a fly-ridden dump. In one image, the little girl and her pet dog haul unwanted stuff to the second-hand shop. In another, she urges recycled paper towels on a (surprised) fellow customer at the grocery store. At the end, she watches as her father stands amazed over their almost empty trash can. Child-friendly language and images provide young readers with basic knowledge and methods to become the environment-protectors they yearn to be. Back material offers parents and teachers ideas for using this book and for other related activities.
